The Story

How It Started. What Came Before

The Loughery family has been farming in the Roe Valley for generations and the family farm at Drumagosker still provides quality beef to this day.

In the late 1940’s, John Loughery, who had inherited the farm from his Uncle John, purchased this small holding from the Lynd family.

In 1953 John married Mary Ritchie who had worked as a telephonist for the General Post Office (GPO) in Enniskillen & Coleraine and had volunteered to work in central London during the Second World War. Following their marriage, Mary left her post (as was the custom in those days) to become a farmer’s wife & they used her severance pay from the GPO to help pay off the bank loan.

After 30 years working the main farm just across the road, John & Mary retired to Mount Fair House in 1983 where they enjoyed many years refurbishing the original dwelling (built in 1810) and developing the gardens & adjoining grounds.

Since then we have won many awards and have been featured in The Irish Independent as one of Irelands top stays of 2021, 2020 the times ‘best places to stay in the uk after lockdown and winning the prestigous Northern Ireland Toursism Award for Self Catering

The Story So Far

John & Mary Loughery had 4 children. Their youngest son Derek and his wife Kim, who are both architects based in Belfast, now own the property and established the ‘Drumagosker’ brand in 2014. Derek explains, “Having grown up in this unique & often forgotten part of Ulster & enjoyed what it has to offer, I wanted others to be able to share that experience”.

Kim adds, “We wanted our guests to wake up somewhere amazing before they venture out to explore what the locality has to offer and the feedback that we have had to date has been both encouraging and exceeded our expectations.”

Their aim is for guests to enjoy their entire holiday experience from the moment they arrive, whether it be exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, visiting the numerous local tourist attractions or simply relaxing in the unique accommodation that they have created.

Escape in Nature

“Booked as the "family home" for our daughter's wedding at Drenagh. Beautiful barn conversion which catered for all our needs on the morning of the wedding. Definitely 5* - A real treat for us all to relax and enjoy. Thank you so much!”

“Came over to Northern Ireland for a family party in Feb.
What a find Barn Lane is! Plenty of space, contemporary styling, great beds and fab views. The underfloor heating and log burner also came into their own during the chilly weather. Planning a return trip in the summer to visit some of the area's famous golf courses.”

Stayed during January 2018 and absolutely love it here! The Barn is beautifully furnished and equipped with stunning views of the countryside. Tranquil surroundings, but a great base from which to explore Northern Ireland's breathtaking coastline. Fab welcome pack on arrival, including some yummy homemade brownies!
